Congregation, was established in the late 19th century by immigrants from the Austro-Hungarian region of Galicia. Established in the early 1900's on North Ashland Avenue, in 1911-12 they relocated to the Humboldt Park neighborhood, becoming the area's first synagogue. Their most famous cantor was Metropolitan Opera star Richard Tucker (Ruben Ticker). In 1957, the Humboldt Park building closed when the congregation moved to the Peterson Park community. After relocating and merging with Congregation Beth Israel in 1957, the combined congregation later merged with the Lincolnwood Jewish Congregation in 2008 and became known as Lincolnwood Jewish Congregation A.G. Beth Israel and is located at 7117 N. Crawford Avenue in Lincolnwood, IL. |
